New appointment for Elanco pig and poultry team
Elanco has expanded its pig and poultry team with the appointment of Izzy Durrant as a monogastric farm services technician.
Miss Durrant, who has a degree in biology from the University of Bath, joins from the company’s pet health division, where she has worked as a territory business manager for North-West England.
She has been part of the team at Elanco since her third year at university when she completed a placement with the company’s pig and poultry marketing team, meaning she is already well versed in the sector.
“I’m really looking forward to rejoining the team and bolstering their efforts to support producers in the face of various challenges, including Salmonella and E. coli control,” says Ms Durrant, who is currently based in Lancashire.
“As part of my new role, I’ll be providing on-farm support to both egg producers and pig producers.”
She says her work with layer producers will focus mainly on supporting them with Salmonella control and prevention, using products such as the AviPro™ vaccines, as well as delivering on-farm audits.
“For the pig sector, I’ll mostly be providing on-farm support for E. coli testing and prevention, as well as the use of the Coliprotec™ vaccine,” explains Ms Durrant.
“I want to help pig producers make the most of the diagnostic testing for E. coli available from their vets and funded by Elanco; this provides an invaluable tool to understand whether the disease is present on-farm and what strains are there.”
She adds: “I’m looking forward to working with producers to support them as they use Elanco’s solutions and services to benefit their livestock.”

Coliprotec F4/F18 is an oral vaccine used for active immunization of pigs from 18 days of age against enterotoxigenic F4-positive and F18-positive Escherichia coli in order to reduce the incidence of moderate to severe post-weaning diarrhoea infected pigs and reduce the faecal shedding of enterotoxigenic F4-positive and F18-positive E. coli from infected pigs.
Each dose of vaccine contains 1.3 x 108 to 9.0 x 108 CFU of live non-pathogenic Escherichia coli O8:K87 (F4ac) and 2.8 x 108 to 3.0 x 109 CFU of live non-pathogenic Escherichia coli O141:K94 (F18ac).
