Seresto^® combines two active ingredients, imidacloprid (10%) and flumethrin (4.5%). The innovative polymer matrix enables Seresto^® to slowly and continuously release the active ingredients from the site of direct contact over the skin surface during the entire 8 month period.

The Seresto^® collar is for use on puppies and dogs 7 weeks of age and older, making it easy to protect dogs from fleas and ticks for eight continuous months. Seresto^® for small dogs is designed for dogs up to 18 lbs. (8 kg); Seresto^® for large dogs is designed for dogs over 18 lbs. (8 kg).

Under normal conditions, effectiveness lasts for eight months. In order to maintain an eight-month duration, dogs must not be bathed more than once per month. For dogs who swim once a month or more, the control duration is reduced to five months for flea control and reduced to seven months for tick control.

Seresto collar kills existing fleas on dogs 24 hours after the initial application of the collar. After 24 hours, any new fleas on the dog are killed within 2 hours with protection against further flea infestation lasting 8 months.

Ticks already on the dog before treatment may not be killed immediately after collar application and may remain attached and visible. At the time of application remove ticks already on the dog. The prevention of infestations with new ticks starts at 48 hours after application of the collar. Any new ticks on the dog are killed as quickly as 6 hours after the initial 24-hour application.

Seresto® does not need to be removed when a dog gets wet or is bathed. The active ingredients are contained in the collar matrix and will not be released into water. They spread through the lipid layer of the dog's skin and hair and even if this lipid layer is partially washed off by bathing, Seresto® will quickly replenish the active ingredients and the dog will be protected again.
