Mechanism of Action

Befrena is an injectable caninized monoclonal antibody (mAb) that binds to and neutralizes interleukin IL-31, a key mediator in the development of allergic and atopic dermatitis in dogs. By inhibiting IL-31 from binding to its peripheral nerve receptors, Befrena effectively interrupts the itch cycle and reduces pruritus commonly seen in canine allergic dermatitis.
